LinkedIn.com is a fast-growing professional business networking site. More and more recruiters have started using LinkedIn as a tool to find suitable candidates for jobs. In fact, jobs have started to appear that are exclusive to the LinkedIn network and cannot be found anywhere else. There are multiple reasons for this. Firstly, companies dont want to get lost in or have to dig through a mountain of resumes. So they post in a more targeted way to cut down on the resume flood. LinkedIn also has features like referrals and recommendations. Referrals allow you to give professional references from your current job to the job that you are applying to. Recommendations are endorsements you can recieve from your ex-employer or colleague. These factors provide more information to the recruiter hands-on than any other system of recruiting would.
Some of the top management staff at various companies in Seattle are already using LinkedIn as the preferred method of recruiting. The Product Development Director of Serena scanned LinkedIn for Directors of Web Development. He looked at people who have added references to these Directors. He found a few such people who were web developers, which is what he was looking for. He called up the Directors who had references from web developers and asked them about these individual contributors. He went on to add these Directors to his professional network on LinkedIn.
